Under a clear blue sky on a hot morning and afternoon, the YMSL witnessed two sweeps in the first round of the playoffs.
Get Back scored 1 in the top of the first, and never scored again for the remainder of the afternoon. 14 consecutive Mo Money runs crossed the plate, as Mo Money prevailed by the scores of 4-1 and 10-0. Morris Kassin delivered a 3-run double in game 1, and Jordy Rumeld stayed red hot into the playoffs.
Abie Pitcher Cohen cruised without a sweat, as Mo Money’s defense was crisp and smart. They’ll face the Tigers in the semifinal round, starting on Friday.
With the late 11:30 start time, Los Caballos looked like they were thinking of being on the beach - they fell behind 4-0 behind shoddy defense and some nice hitting by Toledo.
Morris Shamah got injured while making a spectacular defensive play and had to be removed from the game. That seems to have been the turning point for Toledo, as they battled themselves and the Los Caballos stable of bats - Marc and Jake Braha each played two to tie the game, and then Los Caballos entered blowout territory after Abe Hollywood Dwek hit a bomb to left. They scored 12 unanswered runs to win 12-4.
In game 2, Caballos led early and Toledo kept cutting into their lead. But with every score from Toledo, Caballos had an answer. The closest Toledo got was 7-6 in the sixth, but Elliot Saka hit a solo shot in the seventh to seal it for Caballos.
They’ve won 3 remarkable games since Friday morning, and seem to be riding something magical into the semis - they’ll face Hubba Bubba in the next round, beginning on Friday afternoon.
